COAL HARBOUR

Coal Harbour stretches along the waterfront from Denman to Burrard, and from the north side of Georgia to the Inlet. In this small geographical area are over 40 condominium towers, many townhouses and low-rise buildings, along with a few single-family dwellings, all interspersed with a great number and variety of businesses and services. Our marinas, beautiful parks, Seawall, and magnificent views of the harbour, North Shore, and Stanley Park are unparalleled. When looking out into our busy harbour, there is always something to watch: cruise ships, tugs and pleasure craft, floatplanes, tankers and container ships, sea buses, fire-boat, Canadian Navy vessels, athletic rowers in training. On the Seawall one can stroll and sightsee, rollerblade, bicycle, jog or run, stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes, or explore the shops. We host Vancouver locals and visitors from all over the world. From Coal Harbour, the entire downtown area is within walking distance, and if one does not choose to walk, buses and taxis are plentiful. Coal Harbour is a newly developed area of Vancouver, pre-planned according to the City’s Official Development Plan, with careful detail to preserve view corridors, and to make a viable, beautiful residential neighbourhood from a former industrial area. It is a mixed neighbourhood with two co-op buildings, market and non-market housing, and some very high-end suites. Of note is The Performing Arts Lodge (PAL), a non-profit society for retired people from the arts community, and has a wonderful theatre always booked for the many productions and events held there. The Coal Harbour Community Centre is an integral part of the neighbourhood, too, with a wide variety of programs and activities for all ages.

MEMBERSHIP

Thousands of residents in Coal Harbour are members of the Coal Harbour Residents’ Association.  Collectively, our voice is strong, and has allowed us to establish positive and enduring relationships with City Staff, Mayor and Councillors, The Board of Parks and Recreation, Special Event Organizers, the local Community Policing Centre, our two Members of the Legislative Assembly, and our Member of Parliament-- all of whom have been responsive to our requests and suggestions to improve livability in our neighbourhood.  Our volunteer Board of Directors works diligently to advocate for our community to ensure that its needs and wishes are well represented.

Members and Building Sponsors

We welcome membership applications from adults who live in Coal Harbour either full or part-time, or own a residence in Coal Harbour.  There is no fee for these individual memberships.

There is an annual fee charged to the many condominium towers whose strata councils have joined the CHRA on behalf of the residents in their buildings.  These building sponsors are the only source of funding for our association besides the donations in-kind from supportive businesses in the neighbourhood.  We encourage all of our residential towers to join the CHRA!

Join the CHRA to receive information about upcoming events and newsletters.  Please contact the president, Andrew James at this email address: CoalHarbourResidents@gmail.com.  Provide your name, address, phone number, email address, and write a little about your interests.

Ask your Strata Council to join the CHRA as a sponsor to ensure that we can continue with our important community-building work.
